Lincoln Technical Institute's Automotive Technology training brings today's technology to your hands. You will learn to be your best in our modern Automotive Technology facility. Baran students train on all aspects of the vehicle from fuels to engine rebuilding. While others train on mock-ups and simulators, Baran students train on "live" problem vehicles for proven results that show in today's dealerships.

Scholastic Overview
As a successful graduate of this program, you will be qualified for
an entry-level position in a dealership, repair facility, or transmission shop.

Curriculum:
Automobile Brake and Suspension Systems
You will receive instruction on how to inspect and repair brake and suspension systems, also how to repair, adjust, and maintain the heating and air-conditioning systems. You'll use the equipment necessary to perform 2- and 4-wheel alignments.
AT 100 Brake Systems
[7.79 quarter credits]
After an introduction to safety procedures, tools, and equipment, you'll receive instruction on how to measure, inspect, and determine the service necessary on both disc and drum brake systems.
AT 110 Suspension Systems
[6.44 quarter credits]
You will receive instruction on different types of steering and suspension systems, also how to diagnose, inspect and repair suspension-related problems in order to perform a 2- and 4-wheel alignment.
AT 120 Cabin Climate Control
[7.83 quarter credits]
You will receive instruction on the diagnostic skills necessary to identify and repair problems related to the heating and air-conditioning systems of the automobile, as well as the proper techniques to handle and store refrigerant.
Automotive Transmissions and Drivelines In today's automotive field, a technician needs an in-depth knowledge of manual and automatic transmissions, differentials, clutches, and drivelines, as well as the techniques involved in diagnosis and overhaul.
AT 200 Driveline Systems
[7.37 quarter credits]
You will receive instruction on how to diagnose, inspect, and repair both front- and rear-wheel driveline systems, including 4-wheel-drive systems.
AT 210 Manual & Automatic Transmission Systems
[7.76 quarter credits]
In this course, you're introduced to the proper operation of both manual and automatic transmissions; how to service clutches and clutch linkages, to overhaul manual transmissions; and how to service automatic transmissions with an emphasis on valve body operation.
AT 220 Electronic Controlled Transmissions & Transaxles
[7.17 quarter credits]
You will receive instruction on torque converters and fluid couplings. You'll also be introduced to transmission and transaxle electronic controls.
Automotive Engines
This section is devoted to foreign and domestic engines. You'll be instructed how to diagnose and repair engine related problems, also to use the various specialty tools and equipment to rebuild an engine. Plus you'll have the opportunity to rebuild different types of engines. AT 300 Engine Systems

You will receive instruction on how to identify, check, and diagnose the engine lubrication and cooling systems, along with the types of cylinder- head problems, plus how to measure and repair valve train components and to properly adjust valve train clearances.
AT 310 Engine Repair
[6.58 quarter credits]
You'll receive instruction on the importance of engine balance and the assembly of matched components, also how to perform lower-end service and repairs that meet or exceed the manufacturer's specifications and tolerances.
AT 320 Engine Starting and Charging Systems
[7.69 quarter credits]
You will receive instruction on basic electrical theory as it relates to the starting and charging systems. You'll perform complete service of all types of charging and starting systems on "live" vehicles
Automotive Engine Performance This section concentrates on the electrical and fuel systems and the proper adjustment and maintenance that keeps today's automobile running properly. You'll use modern test equipment including a four-gas analyzer and various scan tools to diagnose vehicle problems. Drivability problem diagnosis is stressed in each of the following courses:
AT 400 Electrical Systems

You'll receive instruction in basic electrical theory so you can identify, test, and diagnose a wide variety of electrical components, also you will learn how to recognize common schematic symbols and to interpret industry standard wiring diagrams.
AT 410 Electrical Accessories & Ignition Systems
[7.13 quarter credits]
You'll receive instruction in the different types of ignition systems; how to service and troubleshoot ignition system problems; and about different fuel delivery systems, their proper maintenance, adjustment, and diagnosis.
AT 420 Fuel Delivery & Emission Systems
[7.84 quarter credits]
You will receive instruction in various emission system controls and their function, also the computerized controls and on-board diagnostic system. In the shop, you'll use analyzers and scan tools to diagnose a variety of vehicle problems.
Automotive Technology Externship
For a one-week period, you will be given the opportunity to shadow a
skilled technician in a real work setting. For day program only. Upon graduation, qualified students have the opportunity to pursue seven different Factory Programs:
